Damage assessment and forecast

Methods for assessing relevant damage mechanisms

In the context of damage assessment and prognosis, we are working on the practical application and further development of methods for assessing relevant damage mechanisms (including critical failure, economic damage, R-strategies) in order to implement specific design philosophies (safe-life, fail-save) in the context of component design and to be able to assess the progress of damage during operation.

Structural health methods for real-time monitoring

We define application-specific monitoring targets and parameters as a basis for evaluating recyclability (lifecycle assessments, reuse) and identify and apply suitable structural health methods for real-time monitoring of components and systems with online damage assessment, for example in the context of elastomers.

Methods for detecting and predicting fatigue damage and component degradation

Moreover, we enable the use of reliable methods for detecting and predicting fatigue damage and component degradation as well as the cause of damage in order to schedule maintenance or repair measures as required and to be able to predict the development of damage. Corresponding strategies are incorporated directly into lightweight construction and component design and into product development processes.
